Road Scholar Coordinator

Watson Homestead Road Scholar Coordinator


Watson Homestead is seeking Coordinator for our Road Scholar program. Initially, this position will be seasonal (March-December). If programs increase, this position will become year-round. This individual will manage all logistics and education components for the Watson based Road Scholar program and each visiting Road Scholar group. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach classes in a wide variety of subject areas and serve as step-on tour guide for several programs. Background in education or related field required. Seeking motivational teacher and supervisor.



College or University degree in field related to education, history, art or science.

Experience with curriculum planning.

Excellent communication skills and passion about subject matter.

Comfortable facilitating, teaching and speaking in front of adults and children.

Highly detail oriented, team player, creative and visionary.

Comfortable with using technology including Microsoft, Filemaker, and Excel.

Meet all education criteria set forth by Road Scholar.

Assume teaching and step-on guide responsibilities in accord with background.


Select, secure and schedule guest speakers, “step-on guides,” off-campus experiences, campus activities, menus, schedules, tickets/reservations, and transportation.

Ability to develop ongoing curriculum and planning for future Watson hosted Road Scholar programs.

Develop new programs in collaboration with Watson Staff, with emphasis on those which will attract new participants.

Be physically present for opening day greetings, dinner, and orientation.

Be physically present for closing night dinner and after-dinner activity.

Demonstrate gracious hospitality at all times, to all guests who visit Watson Homestead.

Participate in Watson Homestead staff meetings and special events.

Coordinate with Watson Homestead Chief Financial Officer on all expense, income and budgeting needs.

Collaborate with Watson Homestead colleagues to schedule facilities, lodging, and activities for Road Scholar guests.

Collaborate with Watson Homestead Guest Services to reserve rooms and generate room lists.

Understand and be attentive to the individual needs of each Road Scholar guest.

Collaborate with Corning Catering to plan menus and ensure special dietary needs of individual Road Scholar guests are met.

Act as primary liaison to the Road Scholar organization.

Upload material from Watson to Road Scholar as needed.

Collaborate with Executive Director to evaluate existing programs.

Work with Executive Director to write program descriptions ahead of submission to Road Scholar.

Forecast and track income and expenses for each program week.

Prepare pre-visit information for participants, along with name tags and folders for each program.

Maintain inventory and presentation of snacks for each program week.

Secure and supervise Resident Advisors who stay overnight at Watson and help to facilitate each program week.

Maintain positive working relationships with third-party resources and vendors.

Watson Homestead Program Coordinator

Watson Homestead is seeking a seasonal Program Coordinator beginning March 1, 2019. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and execution of all Watson Homestead programs and activities. Watson Homestead has a long and rich program history that has served populations of many ages, developmental levels, abilities, needs and interests. We offer programs designed to challenge, delight, and enrich our guests. Our new Program Coordinator will be highly motivated and seek to build upon this tradition.

Watson Homestead Program Coordinator


  • Outdoor Education or Adventure Programming Experience.

  • College or University degree in related field.

  • Ability to develop ongoing curriculum and planning for Watson Homestead Programs.

  • Experience teaching/working with children, teenagers and adults.

  • Deep Water Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

  • High Ropes facilitation/belaying experience.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Creative and visionary thinker.

  • Motivational teacher and supervisor.


  • Recruit, hire, and supervise seasonal lifeguards and program staff (including volunteers).

  • Check and maintain copies of all certifications for lifeguards and program staff on file.

  • Coordinate with Guest Service Co-coordinators and Road Scholar Coordinator to schedule guests for pool, climbing tower and other facilities.

  • Develop and facilitate programs in collaboration with Road Scholar Coordinator which meet Road Scholar education criteria.

  • Coordinate with Watson Staff to evaluate existing programs and to develop new programs as guest needs and interests evolve over time.

  • Collaborate with Watson Staff when special events take place.

  • Ensure that safety and standard operating procedures for facilities and equipment are followed.

  • Maintain high standards for guest experiences at Watson Homestead.

  • Collaborate with Watson staff to schedule, plan and implement all Watson Homestead special events.
